Survivor 36.7 “Fear Keeps You Sharp”

Hi y’all!

Last night on Survivor, we finally reached the merge!  The three tribes have now become one big tribe.  (The new tribe name is LaVida.)  For the most part, Survivor usually gets a lot more interesting after the merge.  With everyone now playing an individual game, it becomes a lot easier to get a feel for who all of these people are.  Up to this point, with the exception of Chris and Domenick, the majority of the castaways have been ciphers.  Now, in theory, we’ll get to see what they’re really made of.

I can’t say that I’m particularly surprised that, post merge, Chris was the first person to be voted off the island.  Chris was a strong enough physical player that no one wanted to vote him out during the early days of the game but, at the same time, he also wasn’t a particularly smart player.  His social game sucked and he had a tendency to talk down to people.  He was the type of player who was always giving people orders and, with a few exceptions, those are the type of players who rarely survive that long after the merge.

I also can’t say that I was surprised to see Chris go home with an immunity idol in his pocket.  To be honest, as soon as Chris arrived at Ghost Island, I had a feeling that he was destined to waste whatever advantage he received.  That said, I did like the way that they handled Ghost Island last night.  Chris sneaking off in the dead of night was exciting and I hope this will be the way that the show will continue to handle Ghost Island for the rest of the season.  I can’t wait for someone to get caught trying to sneak away.

Chris’s exit also brought his feud with Domenick and Wendell to an end.  (After tonight’s episode, I’m really growing to like Wendell.)  Domenick was happy to see his rival vanquished but I think it might actually backfire on him.  Domenick not only wasted his legacy advantage but he also revealed that he has an idol.  Judging for the previews for next week’s episode, it appears that the rest of the tribe is going to realize that Domenick has way too many advantages to be left in the game.  As long as Chris was around, there was always a bigger target than Domenick in the game.  Now that Chris is gone, Domenick would appear to be the most obvious target left in the game.

(For the record, Libby should also be careful.  With almost everyone united in their desire to vote out out Chris, Libby still received two votes, from Angela and Desiree.  Libby has a target on her back and, unlike Domenick, she doesn’t have an immunity idol or any other advantages to fall back on.)

Speaking of advantages, I have to admit that I’m having a hard time keeping track of who has what.  Domenick may have played his legacy advantage but he does still have an idol (a real one, to go along with the fake one that he took out during last night’s tribal council).  Wendell has an idol, too.  And so does Michael.  And Kellyn has an extra vote, which she can cast at a future tribal council.  Is that all of them?  It’s hard to remember.

Anyway, Chris is now out of the game and a member of the jury.  The question for next week is how is this going to change the game and will Domenick be able to survive now that his biggest rival has been voted out of the game?

We’ll see what happens!

What a pompous ass Chris was last night leading everyone down to the water well. The only thing I didn’t understand is why everyone followed him there. I am so glad he is gone, but I do feel sorry for the others who will follow him to the Ponderosa. Can you imagine having to listen to his bullshit till the end of the season! Next week I would like to see Angela or Desiree voted out. They just seem downright ‘mean’ to me. Thanks for another great write up Lisa Marie. Hope you have a great week!!

Thank you, Betty! I knew Chris was screwed as soon as he led everyone off to get water. That was way too obvious a move on his part and it shows that he really didn’t understand the game he was playing. He could have just as easily talked to everyone one-and-one instead of having a big group meeting.

Chris will go down in Survivor history as one of the most annoying, clueless players ever… we’ve had more annoying… and we’ve had more clueless…. but I don’t remember another player that has the combo to the level of Chris. I, for one, was glad to see him gone… with the idol in his pocket… the look on his face… priceless… #blindside

I know, right? Right after Dom did his thing, I was sitting there going, “Okay, Chris, now is when you need to play your idol.” smh. It would have been one thing if he had left the idol back at camp but he literally had it in his pocket and still didn’t play it! What a maroon.

OMG! I was so excited for last night’s tribal. I was hoping for 3 idols to be played and a 3 way tie. That would have been so cool. Dom and Chris would have been safe and Libby would have been a total surprise blind side. That obviously didn’t happen. Not a total bummer because Cocky Chris ended up leaving. What an arrogant ass. But, it would have been so awesome to lose 3 idols!

I was so happy to see Chris go last night. He is truly his biggest fan. I loved the comments by Dom and Wendell when they voted (Dom: Chris Noble, I have enjoyed servicing you coffee for 18 days; Wendell: you are NOT a rapper, drop the pen). Wendell is really growing on me. I hope being associated with Dom doesn’t bring him down. I haven’t quite figured out what about Kellyn I don’t like but there is something I don’t like about her. Thanks Lisa Marie for the great write-up.

I’m liking Wendell too. Dom’s a bit too full of himself for me (I kinda feel one reason why Chris and he didn’t get along is because they have more in common than they want to admit) but Wendell is a genuinely funny guy.

My cousin comes over every Wednesday for Survivor. While we were watching, I said that Wendell reminds me of a grown-up version of Jack from Blackish. Someone on a different blog posted the same thing. Glad I’m not the only one thinking that. I don’t think I’m ready for the disgusting food challenge to be back.

I thought Chris was entertaining in his clueless egotistical way, while I did not think so of Bradley. I kind of hated to see him go, but glad that they can now stop focusing on the Dom/Chris and maybe showcase some of the other survivors. Lisa, Dom had to play his advantage and smart of him to do so, he didn’t know what the vote could be, and that was Chris’ downfall thinking he did. To not play that idol was foolish and to think… It has struck again, I’m sure JT will be sending him a condolence note.

I don’t know what they have against Libby, I think they are jealous because she is cute and wearing those sexy shorts. But then, we don’t see what words Desiree and Angela may have had with her, but she was a target early on.

Loved the challenge and that Kellyn won, she’s an interesting player, like Deb, there is something about her I can’t figure out. I know my dear friend Betty doesn’t like her at all.

Glad to see Ghost Island be used for a little drama. It would have been fun to see Chris get caught getting off the boat coming back.

When it comes to targeting Libby, they’re just haters. I don’t know if I could handle being stuck on a beach with Kellyn. She talks a lot.

On twitter, I suggested it was JT’s fault that Chris got voted out because JT, afterall, is the one who cursed the immunity idol. Hopefully, JT will see that tweet and send some money Chris’s way.

Thanks, Lisa! I have a question maybe someone can answer – have we see that anyone knows about Domenick’s real idol? I forget, didn’t he tell someone, maybe Wendell? In other words, is it possible the others don’t know about his real idol? Just wondering….

No one knows that Dom has an idol in his pocket, although they know about the one around his neck. Chris always accused him of making his fake one, but he has never admitted it was fake. He played an advantage rather than the fake idol at Tribal, saying he was going to “play this instead”, so they may still think he has an idol if not buying into the fake idol accusation.

I think Chris told everyone that Dom’s sea shell idol was fake. (Chris didn’t know that Dom knew it was fake, though.) So, I think everyone should know but I’m not sure. I’m pretty sure that Dom only pulled out his fake idol to trick Chris. It’s confusing. There are advantages all over the place this season.

The idols are hard to keep track of this season. Chris made that fake idol for Dom. Dom realized it was a fake but Chris never realized that. I know that Chris told everyone that Dom’s seashell idol was a fake but I don’t know if Dom told anyone that. But I think everyone knows that the idol Dom was wearing last night was fake. Of course, Dom does have a real idol but I’m not sure who, other than Wendell, knows about it.

H everyone! Thank you for reading and commenting! As far as both comments and views are concerned, this post about Chris being voted out has been the most popular of the season so far. I guess it just goes to prove that it’s correct what they say about giving the people what they want. 🙂
